Before I Chicken Out....

I've had quite a few people ask me about Insanity--we're now in the 5th week, which is technically "Recovery" week, although I'll admit that it's not much of a recovery! I can talk about how much I like it, but I know that when I was looking into Insanity, all I really wanted to see were the before and after pictures...which kind of sucks because I really have no desire to share my before pictures with y'all, LOL!

I know I've shared before how difficult it was for me to lose weight postpartum. Despite breastfeeding. Despite eating pretty darn well most of the time. Despite RUNNING three days a week. To be honest, I was kind of angry about it. Don't misunderstand--I love Lizzy with every fiber of my being, and having her was worth any sacrifice of my body. But, it was still frustrating for me to feel like I was putting in a great effort and getting no results. To feel like the body that I was living in wasn't mine. If anybody else out there is feeling the same way, this post is for you. Because there is hope.

Anyway, we had the opportunity to borrow the Insanity dvd set from a friend. Justin and I have really done well with doing it every day (I think we've only missed one or two days so far). And I'm actually starting to see some progress.

{Deep Breath} Whew. Okay. I don't really want to do this, but I'm going to. Stretch marks and all. {Deep Breath}

So there you have it...THAT'S how Insanity is working for me. And I'm kind of excited (and terrified) about the next month!

  10. Wow--amazing results! You look great! I'm impressed that you guys have kept up with it. Now I'm motivated to try. I was worried that it would be too hard since I haven't really worked out regularly for a while though. Did you feel that you had a pretty good base level of fitness before starting? Did you change your eating habits at all? Sorry for all the questions :)

  21. Wanted to answer a few questions for people who don't have email addresses hooked up...

    Maria- I had been running 3 times a week for several months before starting Insanity. I felt like I had a decent base. If you're nervous about starting from scratch, try the 30 Day Shred first--many of the exercises are the same but at a little slower pace (and she shows you how to modify things, where Insanity doesn't).

    As far as eating, we didn't really make any intentional changes (we still make pizza every Friday), but I've noticed that when I work out, I tend to crave healthier foods (and foods that aren't so heavy if I have to work out later that night). So, my pizza on Friday might be spinach, tomato, basil, feta cheese, and chicken instead of pepperoni and bacon. We both drink soda occasionally, but a lot less of it now--I honestly crave water!

    Anon- YES, we both take breaks or occasionally pause the DVD. Especially on the "circuit" DVDs, you really want your heart rate to come back down before you start another circuit. Also, as you hear a gazillion times in the videos, never compromise form. If you can't do something with proper form, you need to modify it, or take a break. Take a big deep breath or two and get back in it--there's no shame in protecting your form, as long as you don't use those breaks as an excuse not to give your all or push yourself! Remember that most of the people in the video are personal trainers or other fitness professionals and THEY are still taking breaks.
